SPATIAL DIFFUSION OF ENERGY EFFICIENT BUILDINGS: A WESTERN EUROPEAN CASE STUDY

Abstract: Among the various environmental problems arising today, special attention must be paid to the issues related to energy; in particular one of the most important tasks to address environmental issues is the decreasing of the energy consumption of buildings. As a result, much attention has been given recently to research projects aiming to analyze the technological, economical and environmental features of energy efficient buildings. The goal of our paper is to examine the spatial diffusion of energy efficient buildings built in Germany which country plays a very important role in this field. Within the framework of our research we will highlights the differences between the German “Länder” (federal states) and the settlements of different sizes, as well as, the observable peculiarities with regard to the individual building types.
